DK Big Ideas: The Design Book

This inviting book lays out the key ideas and innovations in the history of design. I researched and wrote six short chapters on breakthroughs dating between 10,500 BCE and the 1960s.

Published by Dorling Kindersley in 2024, this reference book is an accessible introduction to design. Guided by bold block-colour illustrations, it aims to communicates complex ideas with simplicity.

I researched and wrote six chapters of The Design Book. These ranged from early ceramics and imported materials in ancient Mesopotamia to tetrahedron packaging, the first design catalogues, and the miniaturisation of computer chips.
Each chapter follows a fixed and succinct structure, reflects the book’s clear and informative voice, and begins with an intriguing historic quote.
