		<description>I am a copywriter, editor and strategist.

Based in Vancouver, B.C., I help clients here and across the world to nurture wonder and share enlivening ideas with more people.&#38;nbsp;

Portrait by Mike DiPietro&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;

My professional journey started at an experiential agency, People. Over more than four years as a strategist and copywriter, I worked with clients from the British Film Institute to the Special Olympics.

I then spent two years on the Editorial team at Serpentine, a leading contemporary art gallery. There, I collaborated with research and exhibitions teams, co-curated Serpentine Podcast, and worked on texts, films, audio guides, and a digital magazine.

Since late 2023, I’ve supported my clients as a full-time freelancer. I’m also a writer and artist with an MA in Writing from the Royal College of Art, and I’m continually growing my own creative practice alongside my freelance projects.

Why work with me?

My varied background helps me adapt to your needs.
Moving across sectors and between very different organisations has made me aware of how diverse teams’ needs can be. So, whether you’re an education lead, a fast-paced studio, or a solo creator, I’ll always start by understanding your world and homing in on your specific goals.
My approach is always informed by your audience.

From the live events world to art museums, each part of my working life has shown me the importance of thinking audience-first. I’m here to help translate complex ideas into clear language and intuitive journeys, so that more people can connect with them.
My multifaceted skillset can enrich our collaboration.

As a holistic creative, I’m always carrying all the hats I wear. I bring my strategic eye, imagination, and rigorous attention to linguistic detail to everything I do. That’s the case whether I’m delivering a targeted service for a few hours, or stewarding your project from start to finish.

	Editing
Strengthening texts with care through every stage.

	From shaping big ideas to checking tiny details, I’m passionate about every part of the editorial process. I’m a qualified language nerd – certified with distinction in editing and proofreading by the College of Media and Publishing. That means I find it truly satisfying to sculpt syntax and flow, set style rules for publications and platforms, and comb your proofs with my eagle eye…

Art writing often pushes boundaries, and working with it makes me a perceptive and collaborative editor. And, as a writer myself, I’m always sensitive to an author’s vision and voice. My role is to uplift and clarify these, so that each text can impact readers powerfully.

Setting a purposeful direction for creative projects.

	Strategy can sound mysterious, but it’s all about creating clarity that lasts. Based on specific insights, I’ll develop objectives and principles. These effectively form a compass: a tool that helps teams navigate towards a shared vision.

I’ve had the pleasure of building strategies for brands, publications, exhibitions, podcasts, film galas, games, campaigns, and more. I love shaping journeys that move people, and crafting bold concepts that are ready to be built into something beautiful. &#38;nbsp;

	What people say about working with me

“Fiona is an incredibly talented writer, strategist, and creative. She brings intelligence, insight, and enthusiasm to everything she does. She adds value to the creative process by focusing exploration, and expressing ideas in concise and compelling ways. Fiona is hard-working, reliable, and a pleasure to collaborate with. Any team doing creative work would be lucky to have her.”
– Rory O’Donovan, Co-Founder &#38;amp; Strategy Director, People&#38;amp;Co.

	&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;

“Fiona writes with care, creativity and precision, tailoring text to speak to specific audiences. She has an in-depth understanding of how to create and edit clear, accessible and engaging copy and she is super responsive and flexible in her approach. I’m very happy with the work Fiona produced and would wholeheartedly recommend working with her.”— Alex Thorp, Curator of Education, Serpentine

“Fiona is a careful and thoughtful editor, who not only refines language but illuminates the impact of words on diverse audiences. Her passion, enthusiasm and creativity infuse each project she works on with a vibrant energy. When she was on my team, Fiona helped to elevate our editing standards, and developed inspired creative concepts for commissions and series. The innovative and compelling pieces she commissions, writes and edits showcase her ability to offer fresh perspectives that captivate readers.”— Hanna Girma, Senior Editor &#38;amp; Curator of Editorial Projects, Serpentine

“I invited Fiona to write an accompanying text for my solo exhibition. Her brilliant piece was accessible, yet also poetic, original and slippery – adding energy to the show. She captured and reflected all of my important themes without being descriptive, and brought in her own ideas. Her text felt like a continuation of our conversations, and visitors commented on how much they enjoyed it. It was a pleasure to have Fiona write such rich words.”— Carlotta Roma, artist

I value building long-standing collaborations and relationships, and I’m always looking to connect with new people. If you’re interested in working together, I’d love to hear from you at hello@fiona-glen.com

Radio Ballads: Songs for Change

Published by Serpentine and K.Verlag, this 600-page book explores many kinds of care in a time of crisis. I proofread this complex and tender publication, which required heightened editorial care.

	This book expands on Radio Ballads – a series of four projects commissioned by Serpentine’s Civic Projects team. For each Radio Ballad, an artist spent three years working with carers, organisers, social workers, and residents of Barking and Dagenham. Together, they considered how art and collaboration can help us to work through illness, abuse, and grief, and to grow.
Reflecting the process and impact of Radio Ballads, the book gathers a diverse array of materials. Essays and interviews meet lyrics, letters, poems, scripts, diagrams, and meditations. Critical texts sit alongside verbatim quotes from dozens of contributors, preserving their natural speaking styles.

	My proofreading needed to be sensitive to each element and voice. Like Radio Ballads itself, the book called for a more collaborative approach. Beyond proofreading, I helped with fact-checking, fed back on flow, and evolved the publication’s unique style guide.

Future Ecologies: Everything Will Be Vine

This episode of Future Ecologies podcast challenges everything we think we know about plants. My editorial consultancy on an early cut helped the producers to restructure and strengthen its narrative.

	In ‘Everything Will Be Vine’, bestselling author Zoë Schlanger travels to Chile to meet “what might just be the world’s most extraordinary plant, hidden in plain sight.” I gave feedback on the first edit of this fascinating story, helping the producers of Future Ecologies to clarify the episode’s journey for listeners.&#38;nbsp;
	“I arrived into the Valdivian temperate rainforests. The constant green and sounds of rain blanketed my senses in a vibrant static hum. In 2014, a Peruvian ecologist named Ernesto Gianoli had discovered that a vine, common to these rainforests, was able to mimic the shape of almost any plant it grew beside... a botanical chameleon...”&#38;nbsp;

DK Big Ideas: The Design Book

This inviting book lays out the key ideas and innovations in the history of design. I researched and wrote six short chapters on breakthroughs dating between 10,500 BCE and the 1960s.

	Published by Dorling Kindersley in 2024, this reference book is an accessible introduction to design. Guided by bold block-colour illustrations, it aims to communicates complex ideas with simplicity.
I researched and wrote six chapters of The Design Book.&#38;nbsp;These ranged from early ceramics and imported materials in ancient Mesopotamia to tetrahedron packaging, the first design catalogues, and the miniaturisation of computer chips.

	Each chapter follows a fixed and succinct structure, reflects the book’s clear and informative voice, and begins with an intriguing historic quote.

Web(s) of Life: Animal Guides

Tomás Saraceno’s exhibition at Serpentine was made to bring different species together. I wrote three unexpected audio guides for the show, each from the perspective of an animal.

	In ‘Web(s) of Life’, artist Tomás Saraceno celebrated the spiders living at Serpentine, opened its doors to dogs, and offered birds new roosts on its roof. While working on the gallery’s Editorial team, I proposed that animals, instead of humans, should ‘guide’ the exhibition’s audio tour. The team asked me to create these scripts, as I had developed similar works in my own artistic practice.I wrote fictional monologues from a pigeon, a spider, and a dog, based on the real animals’ anatomy, behaviour and sensory perception.

	 These distinctive characters encounter different elements of the show, and I collaborated with a voice actor and audio producer to bring their journeys to life for listeners. The ‘pigeon’ story was also published in the exhibition book.
